Ok, i'm looking to buy my first modern ( no older than 3 years ) full sus bike. I feel that i need to move up to this kind of bike following my recent jaunt around Cannock on my trusty 20 year old Dynatech. I've never ridden full sus, so i am completely oblivious to how it rides or what i want, but i have a number of bikes i have my eye on that i feel may suit my XC/trail centre type of riding. They are a Giant Anthem X4, a Yeti ASR, a Rocky Mountain Altitude 50 and a Specialised FSR XC pro. These are all used bikes and although i dont object to buying new, i feel you get a little more for your money buying second hand. Any advice or guidance would be greatly appreciated.

Get an Orange 5. Superb ride, do it all and hardly ever go wrong.

having ridden a 2011 epic i found them to be a really great ride for all that youre speaking of... it was a tester for a weekend with the sid fork...
maybe take a look at bikescene as you can only seem to get 2012 epics in 29er over here, but they have some great discounts on 2011 (and no i dont work for them i just remember looking and being impressed!). really though, the epic 26er is an excellent, excellent platform
grab a test ride before buying though whatever it is! i bought a scott rc20 fs once... and it left me cold, just didnt suit. oops! bad mistake...
needless to say, i dont have it any more but at the time of purchase thought itd be the long term modern fs bike for me!

there are some fantastic bargains to be had if you dont get to hung up on age. the parts and technology on my bikes is not old by any means
Maybe so with some frames but some tech really has moved on. The geometry tweeks and shock improvement on my current 5 make it nicer to ride then my old one (2006). My mate had a 2005 Marin Alpine Trail that was ok but nothing special. So much so he went back to hardtail and said he couldn't really see the point of fs. He was tempted back to fs with a couple of year old Marin Wolfridge and loves it. He says it's miles and miles ahead of the old bike and he is now back on the fs bandwagon.
