Bell ?

On one of them, yes. thought its taped to the seatpost under the saddle way out of sight. I needed it for when i rode London to Paris for charity.

Is it actually a legal requirement? i think all new bikes are sold with one. I heard a rumour that if you got into a road traffic accident and didn't have one then you could get done/ have problems claiming? though i'd have thought that would be the least of your problems if you'd just had an accident (me ringing my bell would have prevented that car pulling out on me would it?)

EDIT: apparantley no requiremnent to have one fitted but at present new bikes have to be sold supplied with one.

i don't have one. i do sometimes feel the need.
i have one of those honky horns, but i haven't got the 'shameless factor' to use it!
i've shouted 'idiot' a couple of times to great effect, but i think its time i got a bell of some sort as i often break my pace due to 'idiots' with no awareness of their surroundings causing me to brake - but if i;d tinkled my bell, they would have been given enough warning..

being in a 'bicycle friendly city' it still astounds me how many people simply don't seem to realize when they are walking in a cycle lane - despite its bright red colour and when crossing over turnings, its often a case of 'oh well if i can't hear a car coming, its safe to cross' type attitude. lots of near misses - the 'missing' part down to me being aware of their stupidity.

Nope,

no room on my bars.............. 'need more cateye - must have more light'

I usually pull the handlebar whilst slamming the front brake. That locks up the front (momentarily), which gives a really loud squealing noise.
The peasants usually jump out of the way when they hear that.

EDIT : I've been known to use blue flashing headlights too. That also clears the road.

a bell is essential on the tow paths where i put in a lot of miles, i do detest runners with earphones though, they should be banned , they ignore my bell so i run into them to teach them a lesson. That will learn you i say as i ride away

I have one on my Singlespeed, which helps for dopey walkers, and definitely helps with horse riders.

I picked up a nice trick in Spain, where they hang a small cat bell from the crossing point of the gear cables below the handlebars. The little tinkling sound alerts most walkers...

...except the really dopey one yesterday who was also walking with a 5 foot stick strapped horizontally across his backpack..
