Should I go tubeless?

Is running tubeless really worth it?

I've been running slime inner tubes for a while and I've been impressed with them but they weigh quite a bit and whenever I freely spin the wheels you can feel the slime having a gyroscopic effect on the wheel. I've not really noticed whilst riding but does this affect handling?

I have a set of tubeless ready crossmax rims crying out for the conversion, but will this not occur in a tubeless set up if you need to use sealant? and does this not negate the whole point of having a nice pair of high end rims/hubs if they do not spin as they were designed to do so?

Your opinions very much appreciated :D

No. Inner-tubes work fine for me. Run at 30ish psi Why change?

Can't say I've noticed any gyroscopic effect when using Stan's. Isn't the gyroscopic effect you're experiencing a result of the hulking weight of slime tubes as opposed to the movement of the slime itself? You don't use anywhere near enough sealant to make a tubeless tyres of comparable weight.

Go for it! I was highly sceptical of the whole tubeless lark until last year, when I picked up a puncture just about every ride. I tried tubeless and now run nothing else.
A scoop and a half, about 75gm of stans jiz, per wheel and you're laughing. Use stans yellow rim tape and valves and preferably a tubeless ready tyre (I like Bontragers of all flavours).
The only problem I have noticed is when landing from a jump on off camber ground, when the tyre sometimes farts.

My Bonedragger XR3, 2.1s weigh 520gm each. Add the jiz and that's a tyre weight of 600gm. It's a different world to Slime!

Definitely go tubeless, lighter and puncture resistant. Just be careful with your Tyre choice as ones with weak sidewalls can be problematic. Maxxis tyres seen to work the best from my experience. [/quote]

Inner Tubes work perfectly fine until you get a puncture.

Tubeless is the way forward, without a doubt, not for weight saving, as most of the time there isn't, and they can be a pain to fit on some tyre/rim combos, but get the stans kit and your laughing.

Being able to run lower pressures without pinch flatting and the fact you can laugh at people on your ride who mutliple flats from thorns is worth it alone.

How do peoples get on with initial inflation if the tyre/rim combo is quite tight? I have recently acquired some UST wheels but I had to over inflate the tyres to 60psi just to get the bead to pop onto the rim properly & I can see this might be a problem if I go tubeless.

Maybe true if you use UST tyres, I just use normal tyres on stans rims and they work fine. One scoop of sealant is a lot lighter than an inner tube, hence the weight saving

Edit: Infact I don't know anybody who uses UST tyres, as normal tyres work on UST rims too and the weight gain of a UST specify tyre isn;t worth it.
