Other than limiting paint damage, is there any other reason why they use plastic bushings?

I mean, penny washers are common as muck! :lol:

Aluminium is soft as butter :shock:

Needle roller bearings don't deal with side to side movement, the arm(s) will move left n right of their own accord if not held by the plastic washers and wear the aluminium away in no time.
