Do all you DH guys 'n' gals use flat peddles only on your bikes?
I ask because Im putting together a DH bike and I use SPD's only
(at the moment) Im going to have to re-learn to use flat peddles.

Your thought please. :)

i started using spds in the early 90's and never thought about using flats again until last year. i got my first full suspension which i use as "enduro" i.e. all-mountain plus very steep technical descents. i chose to go with flats on that bike because its way easier to bail out i case of a crash/losing balance. i took some time getting used to but i'm cool with it now.
i'm not sure if its an advantage to ride flats on a DH rig. i guess it depends a lot on what trails you ride. WC riders are split 50/50 between clipless and flat afaik.

important: get some grippy pedals an 5-10s. their rubber is uber sticky and quality is good. i ride nc17 sudpin III with 5-10 maltese falcon.

This is just the kinda stuff I want to hear about, apart from bailing out the other big issue is staying with the bike when it leaves the ground, no bother when Im clipped in.

Thanks

I've been an SPD user for years, like 15 or so now, and I'm still running them - admittedly I'm not a DHer per say (not many in Jersey) but I'll have a crack at anything and everything we have over here... As for the bailout argument, it just becomes second nature, I don't even think about twisting to release - it just happens..

I've been running M636 DX, M530 and now got some XT Trail on their way..

I was very confident using spd's on my MrO but when I was heading to Fort William with Big.Eck i thought better of it and practiced with my DMR V8's
I use them with Vans trainers, stick to the pedals well & im as confident as i was before , but able to bail far quicker if needed
I am fine when off the ground, just lack that bit of power you get with spuds being able to pull up

Just practice ;)

Apparently the wellgo DMR copy's are amazing and dirt cheap.
Also like Enid said , wear DC shoes , Vans something like that.
I wear them anyway so it makes no odd's too me.
But if you wear , addidas or something like that they will not grip at all.

Burgtec Pedals are amazing but far too expensive.

Can't go wrong with DMR V8/V12 buddy

I wear ike air forces and they grip fine but im sure they arent teh best of course. Not so much grip when wet with v8's. Longer pins helped somewhat.

Looking at some ht pedals next i reckon.
