Specialised stuntjumper problem - Sorted

Hi , i recently took off the paintwork of the rear end of my stunt jumper due to it looking very tired and bubbling up in areas..

i'm having a nightmare and i think i've lost an important nut. but i'm not sure . here's a pic diagram of the problem ,

i think what i need to know is how big is the missing nut in comparison to the ones that belong in section 2 and 3.

i think it will be a bolt with the same head size as the big bolt, it then screws into the big bolt to join them

ok thanks that should narrow it down a bit as i have many bolts lying around ..i thought i put them in a safe place only to find my toddler had scattered them everywhere this morning :/

The bolt you are looking for does not necessarily have the same head size as the 'big bolt', from memory the head size will be enough to fit the inner ring of the bearing it fixes in place. I don't think that it is particularly long either as the 'big bolt' does the job of the internal bush/pivot and you missing bolt just keeps everything tight together in the frame (i.e. ensures the bearings are held captive)

I'll double check on my stumpy tonight as you have the same frame.

also how have you got front and rar disc brakes? , my frame doesn't support rear discs

... but the story is that I was just lucky. When putting the bike together I was on the lookout for similar frames and was aware that some FSRs of this period came with a sharkfin attachment enabling a disc to be fitted to the rear. It basically fit between the left side brake boss and the redundant hole at the bottom of the seatstay. I kept searching on Ebay for 'FSR' in the hope one would turn up or at least there be a donor bike. However I struck lucky when someone was selling a Stumpy FSR frame with the original Seatstay and Link together with the BETD Link and Disk Seatstay. I managed to get the frame, scavenge the parts together with the upgraded bearings and then sell the frame back on for around the price I paid for it. Lets just say the original price for the BETD parts would have been around £300 combined and I effectively got them free. I'm not sure the Seatstay is made anymore, certainly not on the BETD site, however one guy on the thread above say Risse do a whole back end for about $500.

Again I was just lucky, at the time I was just going to upgrade to XTR V-brakes if I could have got them for the right price.
