just adapted my zaskar to single ring at the back and a double up front.

my reasoning is that i will be using it mainly to ride to work. on the way its is down hill and on the way back up hill obviously.

ratio's are 36:18 and 42:18 so should be a nice spread.

tensioning is by a rohloff jobbie. they really live up to the hype.

pics :D

Looks alright you know!

But i think its should be geared or ss

I have never understood this, how does it happen?

You get off and put chain on the other gear?

'Hill is coming up, best get off and change gear'?

nah just change it for the kind of riding you are doing. will probably keep it in 42:18 for road and 36:18 for off road.

now if only i could coble together some kind of handle bar mounted device to change between the two front gears. possibly using cables.

Makes sense if your home is in the hills and your corner shop is not around the corner but in the valley. :|

I thought about this last year with a front mech but bottled it as I put the idea forward on here and didn't get the most positive response. I got bored of hearing the word "chainline"

I should have done it.

Full ride report tomorrow:)

Regards chainline, the rohloff has a floating top jockey wheel so no issues. Only the same as running gears.

Beyond the argument of "because you can", this seems a pretty pointless exercise.

I can just about get my head round singlespeed on a dedicated frame with resultant weight savings on a particularly open-minded day. But this - you've only saved the weight of the extra sprockets, shifters and front mech which don't amount to that much. And chain slap will suddenly be an issue, as will chain line and dirty fingers when changing gear.
