A mate has a choice between 09 (i think) tora 318. Coil/oil with motion control and u turn.
Or, a '10 suntour raidon (only one version of this i believe?).

What would be his best option?
Please try and be as diplomatic as possible (i.e consider suntour too! they cant be that bad?)
The Tora's may come up slightly short though as i think theyre 130-85 where as the raidons are 140mm?

Thanks

I had some Tora 318's and they were brilliant.
My new bike has a set of new Tora SL's Air/Oil, very very good forks and not to heavy.

Cheers for the input guys.
None for suntour?

I think the tora's are 85-135, would that be right (or to -130)? How do you check travel?

I've had a few sets of Suntour forks in the shop where the lockout has stopped working when checking them before giving the bike to the customer. May be a bad OE batch, but don't think I'd have a pair. Maybe a few years down the line when there got themselves sorted with decent quality mid-range forks.

Yeah i forever see dodgy suntour forks, namely the xcm and xcr. Look ok but turn rubbish pretty fast.

The main thing i notice is the black stanchioned ones lose the coating seemingly quick, that and the lockout problems.

had 2 pairs of suntour epicon/raidon forks. 140mm travel, stirling forks, took all the abuse i gave tyhem and was fairly light too.

Not all bad the, cheers for making the decision back to square one

I've heard as many problems with lockout going on lower rock shox as anything else.

But Toras are easier to repair and replace parts if you are using them heavily.

Sorry for briefly hijacking this thread ...

@Coomber : Do you also happen to know where to get parts for Toras? I plan on shortening my 2011 Tora TK for use on a bike with old geometry, but I'm not sure yet if I'll go with the softest spring or go with a cut-down heavy spring. My LBS says he can't get either.

Even at SRAM's BeNeLux headquarters they weren't able to help me any further as they don't sell directly to customers and couldn't provide me with an address where I could get parts either.
