9 speed RH shifter working backwards?!!?

I wonder if anyone could shed a little light on this one please,

Having just built up my Kona Kula, I've used a pair of Deore 9speed shifter that I sourced cheap through this site.
Being used to floppy STI lever things before, I'm finding this a little strange, but am sure that the RH shifter is "wired up" backwards!

The closest pump action thumb operated lever on the RH shifter shifts up to a harder gear, and the smaller lever shifts lower. That seems backwards to me.
Is it or am I going mad?
:D

seems reverse
unless im going mad also

what mech have you though?
if its rapid rise it will be like that

Sounds like you have a rapid rise rear mech, which is designed with the spring tension pushing up the cassette to the largest sprocket to (supposedly) aid shifting into lower gears

Personally I think it's another of those solutions to a problem that didn't exist

What is the model number of the rear mech you have?

If you fit a normal rear mech the shifter will operate as you are used to

Ah....

Yes it's an M850 GS rapid rise LX rear mech.
So I need to swap mech, as the shifters are all the same?

:)

Yup, a mech swap will solve your issue
