Double chainset ideas

Been running 2x9 for a few years now and wanted to ask if any of you had suggestions for a new double chainset? Thought I'd be spoilt for choice now 2x10 is the in thing, apparently not.

Of the few I've seen, I'm leaning towards the SRAM XX ones. XTR - nice, but I aren't ponying up the extra cash for the presumably very marginal gain over XX. Like the idea of the Middleburn Duo set up, heard bad things about flex in the spider though?

What else is out there?

Currently running the KCNC ones. In all honesty they've been total crap - flexy as hell and, the cardinal sin for me, constantly developing annoying little creaks and needing servicing. So no need to suggest them!

Cheers.

I'd rather a specific double to be honest, I'm a bit weird about having things I don't really need on bikes. Run 42/29 anyway, would that work with a bash?

Shimano don't do an XT double or are they just hard to find?

not sure about an xt double
but you can get bash's that cover 44t. after that im not sure, i bet theyre about, just not as common

why not a nice blingy bash!
unless your keeping weight low

2012 XT has a double, not available for a couple of months though. SRAM X0/X9/X7 also. Or FSA have some, although with a unique three-bolt spider that'll limit chainring options a bit.

My Middleburn Duo set up on RS8's serves me well.

No noticeable flex under power? I do like the idea of it. Then I doubt anything could be as flexi as the KCNCs.

MikeD: seen all the SRAM ones in the dealer catalogue down my LBS today, they look good.

No noticeable flex - and I am a self confessed 100kg pedal masher

If you can get a decent square taper BB like a UN72 or even a 91 the package is pretty light.
