PS This is for commuting, light and portable and efficient are the key requirements

I dont commute but the wet proofs i use are Karrimoor Taurus pants £22 and a karrimoor wet proof jacket. both items from sports direct

Anything with Goretex is brilliant , but not cheap .
decent trousers and jackets are £150 each , same for winter boots .

on a budget , Aldi do some decents clothes but nowhere near as good as proper goretex .

Army DPM goretex ;) if you are on a budget ( which I doubt you are!!)

Seriously cant beat some army surplus overtrousers, think the canadian & German army are brilliant designs.

I have one of these (Nike Shifter Jacket) it is great because the sleeves come off for summer use or just to keep your core warm. Not filly waterproof but I have been out when it has been pissing it down for hours and it has not let me down. It is good and breathable too and not so pricey (especially if you can find one of the black and green ones in a Blacks as they were on sale for about £30!)

Lidl are doing their cycling sale again tomorrow Harry..might be worth looking in there ?

Endura stuff is damn good, 99% of my cycling wardrobe is Endura, I ahve a Rebound soft shell (shower proof) but my waterproof jacket is a Berghaus RG1, I also have the Endura Superlite waterproof shorts which are very good at keeping your ass dry, they do them as trousers too

Generally I find that waterproof trousers are not so important (it depends hugely of course on the length of your commute).
A decent jacket cut specifically for cycling is best - however even Goretex will get plenty of condensation if cycling. I've given up on Goretex ones and just have a waterproof jacket, which I wear only when it's raining. When it stops I peel it off and stuff it in a back pocket. If it's only drizzling I just ride in a normal jersey and seem to get no wetter.

I found that the best way to keep my legs and feet dry is mudguards.

Fire up the eBay and you can find a Berghaus Paclite jacket for a lot less than £150, ideal cycling clobber. :)
