I am going to fit a Hollowtech II crank set to my steel GT. So should I get the BB shell faced or not? I have done in the past on an alu frame but I'm unsure about steel. :?

not sure, people bang on about it, but ive never had it done and my stuff works fine

others will say premature wear etc, could damage frame
we never used to do it...

i say, if its cheap enough the consensus will be yes

I faced mine, but it cost me nowt to do it so I would have been silly not to :D

If I had to pay, I probably would have done it anyway for peace of mind :D

WD :D

Put it this way - I've had road bikes in that weren't faced at the factory which creaked when they came in and stopped creaking after they were faced.

If it's an MTB there are plastic spacers which will deform to some extent, but for a road BB then you really should do it.
