name me a seriously strong rim/ hub

hi all

im toying with the idea of building up a set of wheels soon for myself (figure its worth a go lol :shock: )

so as im looking around im finding hundreds of rims for sale but how do i know what ones are serioously strong???

any recommendations from the clydsdale group on this?

also is there any advantage to 36 hole over 32? (im guessing stronger???)

and what hubs are reasonable cost but again nice and strong (im thinking xt here unless some one can advise better)

o and must be standard qr no 20mm stuff please

Beefiest rims I have are Older Mavic 521 or Newer Mavic 321.

One pair I have were on a Psycle Hare, a pretty beefy DH bike.

Lots of rims and hubs to choose from, too many I expect.
I use a Mavic D521CD & D321CD on Hope Bulbs on one bike and Mavic D521CD's on XT hubs on another.
Both are 32 hole.
I'm 18 stone and haven't broke one yet.
36 holes are stronger by a certain percentage but can't remember how much more now.

a 36H Mavic 521 is pretty tough.

yep 521's are a good choice
also deemax too. expensive - but burly downhill rims
you get the fanboys all over them so they have a premium
some dt swiss rims too

i ride da bomb racing rims (aka da bomb da rim i think)
eyeletted, 32holes i think. 4 years ive had mine on deore hubs and theyre still running mint
(although rear needs a SLIGHT true)
before i had these i was breaking wheels everyone couple of months or so

stair sets, jumps, drops etc.
fairly heavy but ive never been fussed about weight
mine were a crc custom jobbie but they have them pre made with the da bomb hubs which are highly rated

most important things are proper spokes and a very good wheel builder, had mine build by nr1 wheelbuilder in Holland 2 years ago and haven't touched a spoke since, wheels are still 100% true....... mavic 719 on King/Rohloff with DT competion spokes

One more for the Mavic solution proposed by others already....

Sold my last one to a punter who weighed 120kg who'd trashed 3 rims in a year. He never came back, even for truing.
