fox talas rlc service help

Hi all

I'm looking for a service guide for a pair of fox forks I have purchased from eBay.

Unfortunately they are not as the seller described and don't function correctly.

The lock out doest work and the rebound is not right either. The forks top out with a clunk.

I know I should send them back but they sat in my garage a while before being fitted so don't think that's an option. In any case I would like to keep them and a full service is in order.

I think they are around 2004 and I can't find a specific service guide. Does anybody have a detailed service guide ?
I have looked on the Fox website but can't find this specific pair.

Any help would be much appreciated. Pictures below to help identify.

I used to have a set of these and serviced them at least once myself iirc. I think you'll want to leave the talas unit alone, especially if it is working. I didn't ever play with that as I read things that put me off (special tools, complexity, pressurisation etc).

Damper side however is ok. I'd personally just go for a strip and clean first, and replace the fluid as it's likely to be old, contaminated and just doing this could breathe new life into the forks and resolve the compression and rebound issues (generally if oil volume is too low, it will affect the function).

You need dedicated tools to service the TALAS unit so leave it alone as ishaw says. Fox do guides for service. Try here: http://service.foxracingshox.com/consum ... Choice.htm

Thanks to both for the r eplys.

I started to strip the forks down today to find this. That's the end of the road unfortunately. It would have been worse if I actually fitted these and they snapped on a descent.

Will wait for a pair with worn stanctions to come a up for sale. The lessoned learned here is dont buy from ebay !

Do you need a set of lowers with v brake mounts or disc only?

V brake mounts.

Ilishaw i have looked back through my messages. You sold me my other identical set of these forks. They are still working perfectly (thank you) and we did 50 miles on the south downs way today.

Should stick to buying from the retro bike community.......

Thanks for the plug, no problems. I've had a look around and can't find any v brake lowers aside from a set I've got currently on my STS.

Have you thought about contacting mojo? They may have some kicking about, perhaps from a service/conversion or a fork with damaged uppers? Might be worth an ask?
