Easy way to remove upper suspension? Or remove headset?

The old lever fitted through the gap, new one doesn't and things like this annoy me so it has to be right, trouble is I'm very much a novice!!

Thanks

Re:

undo the bolts on the 2 crowns holding the stanction then push it down, push the cable where it needs to be then let the sanction extend back up to where it needs to be then nip up the bolts.

or remove the stem and upper crown, put the cable in where you need it, then refit the stem etc

;)

So I will have to buy a bleed kit as well? (Avid Elixir R)

I just realised it's a hose not a cable.

So dropping the leg as suggested is probably the easiest way, certainly quicker than
removing the hose.
How big is the gap, I have Elixir 5 and the master cylinders are purtttty small.

The half clamp section is what stops it.
Otherwise it would go through

Re:

So I tried to lower a stanchion, chipped a load of paint, dented the stanchion, lost a bolt and struggled to get it lined back up.

I got the stanchion moving but the wrong way. Couldn't get it out.

The stem is on very snug so I am just giving up.
