Why do the Germans have the most expensive bikes & parts ?

Re:

I'm all for using bling if it's upto the job and made to last and defo prefer it lightly used. Love a bit of used patina me

I never visit ebay, so I cannot comment on the cited link.

But I've often wondered why BMW never made bicycles (to my limited knowledge), because if they had, they surely would have been better than Japanese engineering (good though that was/is).

My own Panasonic MTB is 1991 vintage, and still going strong (mainly thanks to friends here providing spares), and I'm chuffed with it.

One day, I was overtaking an elderly Dutch-cyclist riding a Siemans bicycle.

Commenting that it was the first I'd ever seen, he replied that it was nearly 30 years old!

When I first saw a BMC road bike, and heard from the Swiss rider, they were Swiss-made, I thought I'd see Rolex-type quality, but alas it has Japanese parts too.

What first impressed me, as a lad in short-pants visiting the IWM, was climbing the steps to view the Focke-Wulf Fw 190 BMW engine, the cowling was only a couple of millimetres from the cylinder bore fins.

I sucked my teeth in awe.

Just my thoughts :)

Those are just the modern ones. BMW has come up with some pretty interesting stuff in the past too. They're quite rare tho, or perhaps the owners just don't sell them that often :
