How much would this have been new?

Factor in inflation since 1988 and we may have a rival to our 'safe' mortgages that justifies our little hobby...

Next time a parcel arrives from eBay, try it on the missus, you never know!

:D

See here too.http://www.retrobike.co.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?t=2581

As a financial investment bikes are no where really except for the very rarest of the rare. Property and the financial market would have turned your £600 into more like £2500+ Difficult to compare like for like now - bikes are such better value now with suspension and discs etc at a silly low price point.

Here is an old advert from late '89 - the Kona price is for the 1990 (XT) model not the '89 Deore DX as on ebay. The '89 was around £650.

Yes, on the spec sheet, but do they actually deliver a better package?? Often doubt that.

Of course one can make some money with bikes, but not by buying them new and storing them for 10 years. This in particularly applies to nowadays bikes without any soul.

Think the above bike goes for ridiculous money considering it is a nice, but not spectacular steel frame with DX. Pretty sure the highest bidder will have another opinion on this
