the chainring is a freewheel so it can still drive when you stop turning the cranks. you can get electic kits that have a similar setup. the good bit is it drives through the bikes normal gears.

tbh i wouldnt consider the bike, will likely go for more than the bike is worth, plus it looks rough. dunno about damage to the tubes, but theres a lot of vibration and forces in places there arnt supposed to be.
you usually see these kits on a proper bso, tesco bike, and i used to think how daft, if your gonna spend hundreds of quid on the motor kit, why not spend a few more quid on a decent chassis. then i saw this and changed my mind completely.

ultimately, i just dont see the point. if you want a moped, buy a moped.
