I would put it at 89 with the XTII and U2 U brake above rear wheel.

It's cool, but I would agree with you guys- late 80's as opposed to mid-80's.

im strangely liking more and more early bikes before the golden 90's
that is a lovely looking ride -good find

Same thing happened with me; started with the 90's which were my halcyon MTB years, but then found myself wanting to go back to a time that's a little harder to find in good condition, and potentially more meaningful. There's something about riding a bike that's been around as long as I have.
