Viper Scandium frame NOW SOLD THANK YOU

Senior Retro Guru
Hi.
This was bought new for me as a special birthday present. Sadly it was at the time I was gaining interest in road riding and it has never really been used. I built it up and did less than twenty miles on it. Four or five of them on a graded bridleway and thats it. There is a few marks from building up and the odd small paint chip but as far as I can see thats it.Most of its life it has been hung up in the shed.I would not mind hanging on to it but really there is very little point so it may as well go to fund a few more road bits. It is very light and builds up into a very responsive and quick hardtail. This I think is due to the fact that nearly every tube is profiled . The rear stays are even profiled in both directions to get the maximum from your effort.I had considered building it up as a single speed with some lightweight kit but I still doubt it would get used so here it is.
Size wise
top tube is 580 - 22 3/4 inch c-c
seat tube is 460 - 18 inch centre to top of tube 16 1/2 centre to top of top tube PLEASE NOTE THIS REVISION
chain stays are 430 - 17 inch c-c
Head tube is 137 - 5 3/8 inch long. ( even that is profiled )
It comes with a headset and seat clamp bought at same time as the frame
All the threads are perfect and you can fit either disc or v brakes.
I am looking for £190 for it posted ( may be more post if you live in an area that carries a postal premium )
Payment by pay pal gift or you pay the charges. Happy to take a cheque but it stays with me until it has cleared. Any questions then by all means drop me a pm and I will answer asap

Re: Viper Scandium frame

Hi.
I will try and weigh it in the morning.Yup its got more curves than a porn star.Probably a lot faster as well. Viper designed it as a x country race frame and it certainly does the business.A lot quicker than my old Kona explosive. Personaly I love the way every tube has been designed to do its job to the max.Someone has sat down and thought this out before starting the build. Get back to you tommorow
Regards
Peter

Re: Viper Scandium frame

Hi.
Our kitchen scales are not digital but a decent make so have used them. With the headset cups and seat post clamp it weighs 1375 gms. You should get a sub 20lb bike with decent kit. I got very near that with the odds and ends I built it up with to try it out and they were nothing special. As said this has been done on the kitchen scales so may not be to a few grams but its the best I can give. A cross check on the bathroom scales confirms I am in the right area. Also please note that the way I had measured the seat tube could be misleading so have entered a revision. It now gives both total height and height to top of top tube

Re: Viper Scandium frame

Very nice. It looks almost identical to the Guess XC1 scandium frame and those are well thought of. Sadly a bit out of my affordable budget at the moment though so GLWS.

Re: Viper Scandium frame

Yup.
I keep looking at it and thinking what the heck am I doing selling it. Thing is I have kept my old Kona explosive as I have had it for years and used to ride it with the kids when they were young. Theres a lot of good memories tied up in it and I would not sell it. So for someone who really only rides the road now I just dont need two mountain bikes.Having ridden the viper the idea of using it to build a superlight single speed really appeals. Difficult knowing what to do really. At the moment its up for sale and if someone takes it then its gone. Otherwise I will probably lavish all sorts of expensive goodies on it and end up hanging it on the shed wall as art work ( No i wont.I will take it into the hills and thrash the hell out of it.)but you get the idea

Re: Viper Scandium frame

Well folks, I've decided to pull the trigger on this frame - now very much looking forward to it receiving it from Peter. Obviously it's going to become a weight weenie XC racer. Most parts will be transferred over from my current build, and if the stated frame weight is reasonably accurate it should build up to somewhere between 18.5 and 19lb (exc. pedals). The spec highlights will be:

Manitou Mars Carbon
Mavic Crossmax SUP 1st gen
Maxxis 330s
Syntace F99 stem
Easton CT2 bars and EC70 seatpost
M950 Brakes
M970 Mechs
M752 Chainset
Dura Ace 7700 cassette and KMC X9SL chain
with a smattering of red ano here and there...

All the parts are in really nice condition so with this lovely frame it should be rather nice once complete :)

Re: Viper Scandium frame

Peter
