I've just got hold of a front Crossmax SL to match my lonely rear one and now want to use this as yet another excuse to make a weenie SS build. The SL's are non disc type so needs to have rim brake mounts and I'd like it to be light - under 1.5kg. This probably rules out most retro steel / alu frames so posting in this section for the scandium / carbon / titaniums ( stab proof vest on ready for the pitchforks ? ). Looking for about 18-19" size. Whats out there ?

those raleigh ti frames are well over 1.5, if you want retro, there are plenty of alu frames that would make the grade, and ti if you have the ciash eg xlm, if you can get away with a small size, kliens/cannondales will get down to 1.5, or on a budget try a giant atx, kona kula, maybe a m4 stumpy.
if you need something bigger, got to be carbon really, obvious choice is a scott scale, about as light as it gets
heres a couple of frames i would recommend, having ridden examples of both, they will weigh around the 1.25kg mark

I have a 2001 Litespeed Toccoa, not sure of the frame weight off hand but it will take V or disc brakes (via an adaptor available from Litespeed for $100)

I also have a set of Pace RC31's (actually I have 2 sets, one carbon & magnesium, the other carbon/magnesium & ti.)

Edit: Weight weenies lists a 19" Toccoa at 1.7kg, however mine is a 17" so may get you closer to the 1.5!

Thanks for the thoughts ....

Raleigh RSP is a bit big really and Litespeed sounds lovely but 17" is too small I'm afraid.

Those Ebay links are very interesting, I did spot the Giant myself so am watching that one but expect that will go for a lot. The Saracen looks like a dogs dinner but I could invest in a respray maybe ? Looks small though so have mailed the seller. Big problem is I'm in Devon so collection would be out - Retrobike to the rescue ???

Specialised M2 / M4 seem to come up reasonably often but perhaps not going to be that light ?

The search continues ...

I'd recommend looking for a oldish giant xtc carbon. Mine is from around 2005.has disc and v mounts and only weighs 1.2kg for an 18 inch.

Looks like you got caught in the same trap as me, except I had the frame & not the wheels. I have a RM Vertex 70 that I am trying to get under 20lbs, with sus forks & 1x9 gears (although I may end up with rigid forks & 3x9 in the end).
Someone was advertising a Rocky Mountain Vertex Team Scandium on here earlier in the year @ 1.3kgs and others to look out for are Kona Kula Primo & Scott Team Issue scandium frames. Those magnessium Killi's ride really nicely but seem to be pretty rare to find above 17"

I have a Klein Pulse for sale if interested, frame is about 1300g and in great condition.

I had it built as 1x9 for local trails and even with steel P2's and mostly mid range kit it weighed in at about 21lb's.
