Slightly odd choice of frame angles and a long TT and stem.

Otherwise, quite ordinary so as Lance says, it's not about the bike!
 
I'm reading his biography just now, very interesting reading. Saw him in some pics from the Tourmalet stage too.

And yes, it's very "ordinary". Just about the only unusual thing about it is it doesn't have tubs.

I have always wanted to know what model Fignon's ITM handlebars were that he used in 1989.

As for the choice of tyres he mentions those in his book and says something like they (the team) were told they would be using 'covers' (clinchers) that season and that he felt they looked bulbous and fat. I wonder how many seconds he would have gained using tubulars in that race?

And that classic pic by Graham Watson is of Laurent and the irrepressible Charley Mottet of RMO (Mavic) caning it on Bastile day, I think just for the fun of it, although they did get reeled back in eventually.
