Hello,
I was wondering if you could help me, I recently bought an old raleigh frame with a few other bits attached and I have been trying to identify what the frame actually is. I know the year is 1984 (maillard hubs stamped 84 and frame number NM4..... which I understand to mean Nottingham 19_4 so this matches) but I was unsure of the exact model. After browsing old catalogs I believe it to be either an 84 winner or sprint 10.

I have looked at your ebay auction for the winner (fantastic job with the photos) and every detail matches exactly so I think I have found the right frame. However my frame is white (the sprint 10 is listed as pearl white in catalogs) and I believe this to be the original colour (no stickers but the sticker marks are still there from being removed and some chips but no sign of another colour underneath)

Could the sprint be exactly the same as the winner (frame wise) and just the components separating them?

The main reason I need to identify the frame is because it didn't come with a seatpost and I currently do not know the correct size to buy. Do you happen to know the diameter of the seatpost for the winner? As I believe they will be the same. Also do you have any information on the seat bolt dimensions (as this is also missing)

Your Macleans is not genuine one...it is one made after Holdsworth took over the name - *so possibly a Holdsworth one but NOT a genuine Macleans).

It may not even be one of those, I've never seen decals/stickers like those before.

MACLEAN closed on 11 Nov 1962. Holdsworthy bought the name, but perhaps later. A 'Holdsworthy' MacLean catalogue first appears on the rear cover of 'AIDS' issued Easter 1965. Dick Brodrick joined the 132 shop in 1967, he recalls they were plain gauge tubing, nearly always black, with gold lug-lining and lettering. They sold few and those were mostly to locals. MacLeans are last mentioned on the back cover of 'Aids' issued Easter 1975.
