CD2 rims?....Been told that these rims don't have a very satisfactory braking surface....to what extent would you agree or disagree with that statement?

I only rode them for a few miles, but I didn't notice any difference to any other wheels I have ever ridden. It was dry though, so I don't know how they perform in the wet.

It could be a £10,000 bid, but we won't know until someone else joins the party!!

No...not yet....i have a little bid on another Mavic [GP4] wheelset that finishes today....these are on the radar....but also seen some nice sprint Campag/GP4 wheels on Hilary Stone's website.....for £49....and as Matt points out the initial bidder might want them so much he put down a £10,000 bid!.....It will all come out in the mix as my grandma used to say.
