Gathering interest on a Bristol Ride for Sunday 4th Sept. Will look into venue in the next couple of weeks and sort something out.

Will be up for this, be good to get a bigger turn out than the recent SW retro rides. I'm guilty of that by not being able to make ones 20 miles from my door step!
Looks like I'll be getting a lift with tiboltrider, so that'll be 2 more riders...

Right ..... the venue is looking likely to be Ashton Court & Leigh Woods, there are some new trails there that sound great http://bristolculture.wordpress.com/201 ... igh-woods/

Ashton court is located in easy reach of M5 and M4 & is not far from the centre of Bristol see below A marks the spot :lol: I will look into getting more defined details in the next few weeks 8)

Went for a afternoons ride at Ashton court today and wow :shock: such a difference since I was last there a couple of years ago, some serious work has been taking place and as a result some nice twisty flowing smooth single track that seems to go on for ever with little climbing 8) I rode on a (cough cough) modern lump but can't wait to try some of my old bikes there 8) I thoroughly enjoyed myself and will be back several times before the 4th I hope....

Ok, Here are the details for Sunday 4th Ride at Ashton Court

:: Date: Sunday 4th Sept @ 10 for 10:30 (Ashton Court) & 12:00 Leigh Woods ride

:: Route: Will do a lap of Ashton Court 1st and then we shall go accross the road to Leigh Woods, You can stay as long or little as you like as we will never be that far from the meeting point. You are free to go round as many times as you wish :lol: Lunch I will try and check out the available venues this weekend and report back...

:: Meeting at: Ashton Court Golf course car park A (see Map pictured and link), easy to find, Use the top route as pictured, it does get busy some times. Alternate parking B I have also marked on the map which is at leigh woods, you would have to blast over to AC & viceaversa. After we have ridden round Aston Court we will have a quick jumble swap and then pop over to Leigh Woods for 12:00 (B on Map)for the second part of the ride with Agency_Scum.

:: Directions: HERE and below

Image

:: Terrain: Ashton court is now new and fresh hard pack, I will report again nearer the time, Leigh woods is pretty much anything from peaty soil, mud and roots......

:: Tyre Choice: No slicks :lol:

:: Boot sale : = Yes, bring along your unwanted treasures and give aways, this seems to be common practice at retro meets which is good. Will probably do after the 1st ride at AC.

::Helmet : Definitly

If anyone wants my number please pm me and we can exchange 8)

Cheers for now

I went up to Ashton Court yesterday again and even after the all rain & downpours I still came home with only a few splatters, The rain does not seem effect the conditions at Ashton Court, Some of the trails have worn in places but nothing that worry any retrobikers :lol: Leigh woods maybe slightly different :wink:

I know agency_scum has been to Leigh Woods today and he seems very excited :), he has also recommended an ale house for lunch which will involve a quick ride over Brunel's famous Suspension bridge, if anyone wants to go proper retro and avoid the "suspension" and go fully rigid then it a long way round :lol:

Should be a good picture opportunity at the Bridge 8)

Full recce of Leigh Woods and trail pixie™ work started today. IT LOOKS GOOD. I can weave old " Stealth Network " and new man-made trails together in at least an hour long, unrepeated ride. There's a VERY good pub ( the Portcullis ) to go to after with pretty good security ( due to layout and location ) and I'll have a BIG cable and D lock to use.

We spoke to the trail builders, Clixby's and the design consultant, Phil Saxena and have tacit agreement ( " You won't go being a bunch of tw@ts now? " ) to use the new, unopened trails which have bedded in a bit. Lots of Trail Pixie™ work continues on the old " Stealth Network " so I can take a group for 90 minutes-ish of un-repeated singletrack/man-made trail riding.
I'd like to do this ride at midday if that's alright and have a midway 10 minute rest break. How's that?

Good Stuff 8)

Everyone can ride as little or lots as they wish as we will be pretty centralised.

Now have to decide which bike to bring :?

Me too... the Timberline is ready to go, but I have just thrown a set of original XT V's that I had sat around in a drawer on my Clockwork, oh and an original USE post. Might bring that one.... hell, might even bring them both !

I am out :cry:

Have only got tomorrow now to spend serious time getting new bike ready for the Peaks next weekend if I can source a bottom bracket today

73mm 107 have found one in Cheltenham leisure lakes so off over there later to collect but then got a family event at the Cinema (Do they not understand priorities hey? :roll: )

Could come over on Modern tomorrow but really be better spent sorting the bike out , Next time I am sure there will be a return 8)

I really enjoyed the Jumble but it was a little far for the jumble itself maybe could be Jumble + ride the trails in the afternoon next time?

THIS IS IMPORTANT
THE KITE FESTIVAL IS TAKING PLACE TOMORROW AT ASHTON COURT

THIS MEANS THAT THE TEA HUT CAR PARK IS CLOSED AND THAT PARKING IN NORTH ROAD WILL BE DIFFICULT.

i would suggest attempting to park in clifton on the other side of the suspension bridge and then riding over.

i'll be happy to meet people at the suspension bridge at 9:45-10:00 to guide them in

can

Cheers GM. The effort is appreciated

what a pain in the ass eh?

A bunch of weirdos who spend all their time knocking up brightly coloured bits of engineering weirdness, which take all the room in their houses/sheds/garages. Then they come out and meet up with like mided nutcases to exercise these damned things --- Displacing US and our 100% sensible and completely necessary activities! Grr!
