WAR OF THE WOLDS

This was a great event in 2011, well organised, nice challenging route (if a little too much road, but that can't be helped) and flapjacks at the half way point.

20 or 40 mile routes to challenge all. I plan on doing the 20 again and seeing how much I can beat last years time by.

If entering add Retrobike into the team section.

Maybe a few of the north bank lot fancy popping down for the day?

I'll be away from home all the week before with work now, so can't see a pass getting signed :(

Have a good one though chaps.

There is also the Viking challenge in October. I've not done it myself, but itt's apparently very well organised.

Unfortunately this event clashes with the National Series Rd 3: Leith Hill - Surrey ~ Sunday 27th May

If you can make the national event it is well worth the journey to ride with those whom drink flat beer ;)

If you can't, well there's always this ride.

Author:  FluffyChicken [ Tue Apr 03, 2012 8:59 am ]
Post subject:

I should be doing this this year. Been on the calendar before the National Series 2012 was announced.

Andy, you can give DSP a spanking with EdEdwards in the woods for picking the only day in that month that clashes with something put up since last summer ;)

That and Leith's one for the Southerners to ride

Post subject:

That's me at 2:31. I'm a lot fitter this year, plus we spend way too long at the feeding station last year so (if I can manage to get a pass signed) my target is 2hrs this year.

If I do this year's it will have to be on my modern.

I'm working this year so will have to miss, if it is a dry as it was last year and knowing some of the riders on here 2hrs will be easily beat

Much as I'd like to go to the National Event that's on the same day I think it would be wise for me to do a local ride with the back up of a sweeper wagon, just in case things go wrong as it's a gentle re introduction to the bike after my op

20 miles will be more than enough for me I reckon!

So who else is on the list?

For those who are going the event is held at

The Grange, Swallow, Nr. Caistor, North East Lincolnshire, LN7 6DL.

Event signs will be by the road side for approaches.

It's a hundred yards or so down a farm track alongside the A46 to the event parking area

The postcode gets you to within around 500m of the entrance to the field the event starts in

I'll be doing the 20 miler as I haven't ridden a bike in ages and want to be back home for the Monaco F1 GP ;)

So who's going to be there then?

I'll be in my Retrobike riding gear and yellow gilet, on my green '99 Orange Clockwork swearing at anything within half a mile..... You can't miss the pottymouth;)

After actually cleaning the Altitude since last ride on it, which is so long ago I cannot remember where.
Different chainset put it as I'd stripped the other out.
Recabled read brake as it had slightly corroded and gummed up. Better cables now and all shielded.

Pedals sound buggered so need to grab some others.
A less torn seat and the headset bearings feel rough, serviced them but I think water got into them after I accidentally flooded the inside of the frame when I took the worst of the mud of way back after it's last ride. doh!
Forgot to separate that part.

Anyways, it's up and running

So You'll ID me by the red/yellow bike being readjusted alf way around the course.

BBQ and drink yesterday didn't help the rebuild

Post subject:

Changed my mind, I think.

I don't think I'm going to ride the Prestige now, may ride my '88 Rockhopper. Just need to put me SPD's on it.

I'm riding a bright yellow 1988 Specialized Rockhopper, wearing a black 'Star Bikes' top. I'll be standing next to Ben, waiting to borrow one of his tools to re adjust the Rockhopper hehe.

Author:  Trebz [ Sun May 27, 2012 7:01 am ]
Post subject:

Changed again, had to look after my 7 month old girl for an hour, the Rockhoppers is in the loft, don't have time to swap tyres and get it out of the loft now pppfftttt

Orange Prestige it is then. Complete with dodgy brakes.

very warm today, especially out of any breeze!

had a good laugh and enjoyed the whole deal really. oh, i suppose the getting lost thing was a negative due to poor signage(lack of) where the 40 meets the 20 miler. cost me a record time for that event

cheers.

Great pics !

I have the same comments about the signing issue. Save for people getting lost due to bad signing the day was amazing, great ride, clearly great people, food and toilets on site and a round of applause at the end !

Bring on the next one I say !

Two questions:

1. How do I find out what place I finished in?

2. How do I get copies of the pictures and videos taken on the day?

There were quite a few non cyclists taking pictures, who were they and how do we get in touch with them?

All the best

Trebz

Superb day out!

Pity the signage wasn't as hot as the weather, I'll let Pottsy (the organiser) know that it does need improving

Great to be back on the bike again, and out with some great company

Good pics there Marc

Trebz, results will be up on the bicyclemania website soon http://www.bicyclemania.co.uk/MTBresults.htm & pics should be available soon http://www.bicyclemania.co.uk/MTBpics&video.htm

i'm gonna deduct 15 mins off whatever i did..i said so  due to twice circulating somebody's back garden with no real need to do so (you had to be there) :o must have been a good 20 of us so, was glad i'm not exceptionally myopic.

Good time Trebz

My GPS upload has failed :(

Last year I did a 2.08 IIRC, one year I will go sub 2h

I reckon without being at the tail end of the start pack and the couple of hold ups on the 1st few climbs we all could have shaved 5 mins off our times

Author:  FluffyChicken [ Sun May 27, 2012 7:52 pm ]
Post subject:

Trebz was one of the hold ups ;)

You lot didn't do half bad considering you er increased the distance and went looking at peoples gardens

Can't belive my only injury of the day was getting out of the car into a pile of nettles, both legs still stinging a bit now

Either way the important thing is I beat Andy around, even if it was just the very last road in where I thought I would see if I could catch up with two lads (yooof's) I had chatted to when I was registering.

Lovely day all around.

Was a great ride, apart from gettin lost due to the poor signage. Good job the people whose back garden we ended up in were not in as they would of had a bit of a shock

I didn't ride in the end. I'd been away all week with work, working very long hours with very little sleep all week, so needed some rest.

My usual riding buddy did the 40 miler in 4hrs, including a puncture stop. No way I'd have kept with them anyway
