.

North East and Yorkshire Area Group Proudly Present...

THE SIX DALES
Hambleton Hills, North Yorkshire Moors

Image

START: Sutton Bank Visitor Center

TIME:09:30 for a 10:00 start

DISTANCE: 24 Miles

TERRAIN: Mixed Single and Doubletrack, open moorland, technical wooded singletrack, quiet country lanes. 95% offroad.

DIFFICULTY RATING: 4/5

Image

The penultimate big ride of the year and a tough one to boot. Taking in classic singletrack and drove roads, we will visit six of the lesser visited dales of the NY Moors. Historical interest, huge vistas, woodland trails, killer climbs and high speed descents will be the order of the day. Expect mud and changeable weather so come dressed to suit. Everyone welcome on old and new bikes. This will be a big day in the saddle and will take around six hours to complete. Tough but highly rewarding.

How to get there
The Sutton Bank National Park Center is six miles (9.5km) east of Thirsk (or 7.5 miles (12km) west of Helmsley) at the top of Sutton Bank on the A170. Postcode is YO7 2EH

There will be a tea shop for refreshments at 1/3 distance and a pub at 2/3 distance. Sutton Bank Visitor center is open until 4pm for teas at the finish.

Thanks to Jack P20 for the photos

No. Starting point is the same and the first three miles (with the big views) will be the last three miles on this route. We will also pass the abbey, but approach and departure are different. 60% of this route is all new. There will be no 'green valley of death' this time around (unless you want to Richie?)

Yup, I was planning on being on the Saracen. If its been really wet though it might be on some non period looking blackwall tyres though. :(

I'm going to ride my 86 Cannondale SM600. It will be our 25th anniversary the following week. Its been unridden since its restoration two years ago so will need a service and plenty of helicoptor tape to protect the pristine paintwork. I might have to swap the terrible foam grips too as they fall off at the slightest hint of dampness.

Post subject:

Si, I've heard this mentioned before - is helicopter tape readily available and if so where can i get some from?

Author:  marc two tone [ Wed Nov 09, 2011 3:04 pm ]

Oh & Helitape...

A good friend of mine sells it (as well as being a great biker who frequently gets POD on Pinkbike), it's the proper stuff to (you can get some not so good stuff that yellows in the sunlight!)

3M make it iirc It's a polyurethane tape, probably trademarked and developed by them. Not seen the stuff, but I assume it's similar to the book protection stuff I use and no so far removed from the carpet tapes.

I do know you can wet or dry apply it as here's one of the MSDS's
http://multimedia.3m.com/mws/mediawebse ... 8671hs.pdf

quick search finds a side and different types you can get

Glad your on the Saracen as I wanted to get some pics of mine and yours together (the ones from repack weren't very good) as this will probably be the last outing for my kili this year.

I'm going to strip an clean it, then rebuild without using Shimano componats for next year.

Ps
I,ve ordered sunny sunshine for the ride but it was out of stock, hope it's back in stock for the 19th

okay cool, I'll leave it as is then. :D
With regards to your suntour rebuild, look forward to seeing it but my mountech rear mech with its "unique" top pulley design is living upto its (crap) reputation - needed completely rebuilding after that last ride as it had seized solid...

:( Unfortunately, we've just suffered a bereavement in the family, so it might might be more sensitive of me not to come out and to stay in. Sorry, but i think I'll have to cancel. Regards. :(
