The Retrobike Rides Monthly Newsletter - October 2011

Another glorious month of RetroBike riding in September saw over 50 RetroBikers find a break in the weather to complete Mr. K's Day in The Peaks ride. It turned into a perfect and memorable day for all those who dusted off their old stead and braved the demanding Peaks trails.

The inspirational Mr. K

October 23rd will see the climax to our little series at Leigh Hill in the North Downs. The event is being hosted by our South East group and from reading the recce threads it promises to be a great days riding. Full details can be found here.

Retrobike Rides have now been going strong for many years. They have evolved from a couple of dodgy looking characters meeting in the woods to ride their retro pride and joys to groups of up to 40 enthusiasts meeting up to enjoy their bikes, company and trails.
In doing so a friendly atmosphere has been created and good riding manners developed, giving Retrobike Rides unique qualities and banter. As always with Retrobike Rides, everyone is welcome and made to feel welcome.
All abilities are catered for with the rule being we only get round as fast as the slowest person, with short cuts and chicken runs being planned into the routes.

If this appeals to you, please come and join in at one of our National or Local events.

September:

There has been some great sunday rides out in the kingdom of Fife this month. Our east coast so-solid-crew, have been mashing it up big stylee and if you can put up with the obvious genetic shortcomings all are welcome to join them on what seems to be a weekly singletrack shindig type thang.

Arran has been explored again by The Ken and rado and is as always, a mt bike and road haven. If you are ever up in bonnie eccosse then a visit to this Isle is well worth it and for the price of a killie pie, a macretro rider will come with you and will endevour to get you lost.

October:

Apart from the ongoing weekly rides, the high"light" will be the night ride at Glentress. Not a exclusive retro ride but I'm sure there will be a good selection of old pig iron and all in honour of the original repack ride albeit in the dark. should be lots of crashes and all welcome.

Friday 21st October- Glentress

September:

The highlight of the NWA calendar was surely the annual Retrobike 'Day in the Peaks' ride. Over fifty riders were squeezed into a garish display of lycra, coming out to show some K Pride in the Peak District. With the return of the venerable Mr Kawasaki from a two year riding absence from his own event and with favourable weather, a great route was enjoyed by everyone out there.
All the recce rides were certainly worth it too. A group management strategy and a great team helping out ensured that nobody got left behind, nobody got lost and nobody got hurt. (The emotional scarring of EdEdward's tales not withstanding of course)
I also managed to pre-order my bacon bap and coffee so it was waiting for me when I arrived last at the cafe.
These things really count y'know. Peaks aftermath here: --> http://www.retrobike.co.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?t=165280

October:

There are a few rides planned for October. We'll be back somewhere in the Peaks on the 8th October and then off to the North Downs for the final round of the national series on the 23rd.
Keep an eye on the NWA section for more announcements soon: --> http://www.retrobike.co.uk/forum/viewforum.php?f=30

Photo of the month: Dusk on a warm dry Tuesday night ride at Ticknall

September:

A busy month with many of us attending the day in the Peaks ride (a record turnout with 50 or so riding!). We also continued our regular Tuesday night rides visiting Derbyshire and Leicestershire this month including a haul up the highest point in the East Midlands - Bardon Hill and a splendid evening in the pub after a Ticknall ride blowing up balloons into extraordinary shapes (they were meant to be animals...) - memorable! We also did one or two early morning weekend rides locally as well.

October:

More of the same. Regular Tuesday night rides, see here for planned rides and here for the associated chat and unplanned rides are announced usually in green so are easier to spot amongst the blather :D

Also - don't forget our East Midlands route resource for ideas of tracks and routes that you might want to ride in the area. It has maps and descriptions for lots of rides in the region.

September:
September in the West Midlands featured a tidy ride in the Forest of Dean organised by theredchilli - eschewing the waymarked trails we rode some sweet singletrack and ended up at the pub before lunch (and also before the heavens opened). Significantly it also featured the return of Del, finally back from a broken collarbone.

On a personal note, I rode the Three Peaks Cyclocross - the horror, the horror.

October:

The main ride for October is again organised by theredchilli, 15th October 2011 in The Black Mountains http://www.retrobike.co.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?t=163048 and looks set to be a powerful antidote to the World Cup rugby.

And finally, we're having a little ride just before Christmas with a spot of traditional roast thrown in - why not join us (that'll be me plus imaginery friend) http://www.retrobike.co.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?t=164935 ?

September:

Advertised as a bit of a quiet month, it turned up a little surprise..

Racing returned to Whiteways for one night only! (Forum thread) - (Website). It would seem this is the precursor to a possible series and enduro for next year. Can't wait :D

SSUK at Ashdown Forest proved itself to be a great course for the few that entered. Build up and post ride details in this thread with some links to pics right at the end

There was a small spattering of local riders at large too, including a bike jumble at Ripley

October:

IT'S THE BIG ONE!

and for those of you that have been hiding under a box of bits in the cave..

* These low scores generally indicate that Sinnett177 couldn’t recognise you and so could only score on basic things like attendance. If you drop him a PM with a description of who you are and what you were riding you will have your points amended. If you've been missed off completely, again PM as above.

Enjoy your riding!
