You know they come with a lot of road stems............keep it in for 1" steerer or take it out for 1 1/8 steerer........... 
Shim for 1 1/8 ahead stem to reduce to 1" ahead stem

if you are running a 1 1/8 stem on a inch fork you need it if your running a 1" stem on a inch fork you dont

Wow thanks for all the replies............i'm really after a freebee or cheap cheap..........as i used to have these knocking around my old shop all the time i can't help thinking of them as kinda through away items
