Can you put a pic up of what's left, assuming you have the clamp bit. i have sum accera spares and other such bits kicking around, i may have something suitable...
Before cutting a bolt down thread two nuts onto it, lock them together with two spanners ideally at exact point you want to cut the bolt's thread. Then cut the bolt and remove the nuts. They will remove the burr in the thread and your bolt should be correct length and thread in smoothly.

can i just clarify that its the clamp and bolt or the canti and clamp etc ? I belive the clamp has a slot in it to stop it twisting ?
