Hi to replace nasty grip shifters on a Marin bear valley se(1995) that I'm restoring for use as a road bike anything considered but apparently must be shimano to work with existing mechs etc? Thanks

Really would like thumb but would settle for two lever trigger shifters?

Just need gear levers as just bought new v brakes with levers thanks
 
So what should I pay for thumb type? Can buy xt for £37 and dx went for £23 inc postage. Is that expensive? (Fleabay)
