As a child I was ferried around by my parents in firstly a Ford Escort MkI and then a Escort MkII. I cannot understand how anyone would call either a classic and pay big money for them, they were poo.
Yes I know there were good performance versions but a 2 door 1100 Mk I, are you out of your mind. My parents one would need a long run up to wheeze past a milkfloat and using the Mk II on a motorway required a level of faith I did not possess, I always held my breath as my dad crawled past a truck with every bolt and rivet trying to shake its self loose.

Wait a minute, I like crappy old bikes and own a Microcar

Ignore everything I've just said.................

howdy folks. anyone able to offer any advice on a "too good to be true" vw?

been offered a mk2 golf gti with a corrado g60 engine in. conversion all complete and nothing looks bodged but the seller is skint and only wants £1500 for it. He doesnt know the history og the charger. they need a rebuild after 20k which costs about £300. he tells me it is "all good" but are there any tell tale signs of a worjn supercharger? the g laders have a reputation for being somewhat grenade like when they go!

sensible option would be a rebuild immedately but i am stretching myself to buy the car. wiould be able to do it come winter though.

any thoughts chaps?

May not be too good to be true, Mk2 Golfs generaly dont fetch strong money (unless mint, low miles, show cars etc), recently seen a very tidy VR6 conversion for sale for £1800.

Not got any experience with G-laders but i'd be tempted to buy it, give it a good service then take it easy (easier said than done) till you can afford to get the charger checked/rebuilt.

Either that or fit a more reliable Eaton blower if you can live with the noise (i could :) )

that noise would do my head in!

the car is very tidy, zero rust in the usual places (sunroof, fuel flap, sills) but it is a 5 door and a late model - a good thing in some respect but i love the early small bumpered cars.

Bought an engine for the Pajero off ebay today - straight swap, 3.0 V6 with c.70k on it for £330. Just need to get it sent up here and put in now (been quoted £80 for the courier and £300 for the transplant).

Was thinking about putting in a different V6 from a Mitsubishi GTO for more power  , apparently it's doable but not totally straightforward and for me that means more cash chucked at the garage so I chickened out!

Made a boo boo in the engine purchase  It is the same engine but apparently this one is slightly newer and has coil packs instead of a distributor. I'm out of my depth here - the garage might as well be talking greek to me and google is no help.

Had the itch to buy a new motor, fancied something big and comfy for a change, it's great time to buy a big old luxury barge, they are pretty cheap as few people want them, was looking at Jags and BMW's, not realy into Lexus or Mercedes, spotted this BMW E38 for sale so ended up nipping up to Crief last weekend to get it :) .

It's a 728i, the smallest engine for one of these (2.8 stright six), drives realy nice, lovely inside, pretty loaded spec, full BMW service history, fairly pleased with it so far, has a couple of niggly little faults and a big one being the heater blowing stone cold but pretty sure (hopping) that's the heater valve (fairly common fault)
