Long-time bike journo and photographer Seb Rogers is launching a new mountain bike magazine this spring. Called Cranked, it’ll be published four times a year and, in a move that cheerfully sticks two fingers up at the conventional wisdom that digital is the only place where it’s at, it’ll also be available only in ink and paper form.

“It’s intentionally different”, says Seb. “High production values, the best paper and printing we could find, and features that are put together with time and thought rather than rushed out to meet a tight deadline. Think of it as a digital detox – two-wheeled, fat tyred vinyl to everyone else’s MP3”.

Due out around mid April 2015, you can sign up for email updates – and a chance to win a year’s free subscription – at www.cranked.cc , or visit Facebook.com/crankedmtb for more.

Re:

a laudable ambition, and suitably retro

nevertheless i'm sure it will end up with a website, twitter etc!!

Re:

Just subscribed on their website for up dates

Would be great to have something to read, never got into anything else after MTB Pro went west

Endless re-views on DH rigs and latterly 29'ers and Phat bikes leaves me cold, so much so I can't even muster up the effort nor enthusiasm these days to open a current MTB mag up :?
Even when bored out of my mind and desperately looking for a little escapism whilst enduring a trip around Tesco's etc I walk past them all.

......hopefully this one will be a little different

Oh the sweet irony.

I love the resurgence of high quality magazines at the moment, they all seem to focus on road so this will be a welcome addition.

In a move that cheerfully sticks two fingers up at the conventional wisdom that digital is the only place where it’s at, I will be venturing in to WH Smiths sporadically until I see this on the shelves, flicking through it and, potentially, buying it.

Never really been interested in staring at a tiny screen to read my magazine. Prefer a paper one which I can hold and read without worrying about battery life. So this will be a nice addition.

Hi Pete,

I'm afraid you'll have a long wait. The WHS distribution model isn't even close to cost-effective for a small independent mag, which is why we're distributing direct via the website. There just isn't another viable way to do it at the moment.

I do appreciate the irony of the situation, but it's a model that a lot of small businesses are using now.

Regards

Seb
