Don't EVER let me plan another ride again...

Death on the mountain - Velo finally expires

Don't worry, we let Mountain Rescue know where to retrieve the body.

I'll let the pictures tell the story. But summary - Far too much walking/climbing, not particularly retro friendly, and just not enough good riding for the effort involved.

The Gypsy Glen descent was nice, but the climb up was nasty - and once you're in Peebles, there's no good way back to Inners. The route we took up through Glentress was not the best either, the final steep climb up a walkers path involved crawling under/over fallen trees every 20 metres. To top it all, the initial part of the final descent off Lee Pen was so steep and rocky it was unrideable.

Finally done with climb up to the start of Gypsy Glen - Kaiser and Velo still smiling

Start of Gypsy Glen proper - the route basically follows the ridgeline from right to left, then round the back of final hill on left

I think your mistaking camp with intrepid, brave, daring, inspirational etc.

That was an epic in the titanic struggle style of greek mythology minus the minataur, medusa and golden fleeced sheep. Glad I did it though, looking forward to the next epic adventure though I think packing a machette might be useful.

Had a mull over of events! Whilst it wasn't perfect and isn't really suitable for a big group, it was a nice wee adventure. It did serve its purpose of scouting several route possibilities and as it turns out discounting them. I reckon our attentions will turn towards Minch moor.

We have a few options on this one too :)

I was thinking to join you guys but my instinct whispered maybe not this time  Nice views though.

Maybe restrict to Inners XC or GT only??

The idea is to have a more natural old school trail meet not a trail centre special. Folks down south will start thinking we cant ride unless the trails are handed to us on a plate with signposts and cafes. Anyway at retrobike meets many folk ride rigid bikes and Innerleithen XC route was designed for suspension bikes not rigids

well done lads, looks like a mini epic, shame all your efforts never uncovered a natural gem... 10 out 10 for effort :D
