Im still waiting for a reply from Redek as to whether you can take my bike up for me as space in our car is seriously limited[bloody dogs]
I think we could fit it in but it really would mean repacking the car a couple of times to try to fit it in :?

From the way it sounds,it seems like you guys will be pushed for space also. How many in one car :?
Are you Romanian

Just 3 of us Dyna but I only have 3 roof racks as one got trashed last year. I could look in to borrowing one, but my mate has just moved house so is a bit disorganised.

I'm not happy with my off the back carrier on the touran on a long journey, just doesn't feel supported enough and the side straps pop out on occasion.

Could get one inside the car but I can only do that both ways if it is clean (wife's orders). I suppose you could wrap it in a clean tarp on the way back.

dyna - I've only got room for 2 bikes in the Ka, so it wouldn't get any further than Falkirk.

I'll manage. :)
I think my easiest option it to strip the bike down to its major components and pack the car around them :?

Ah boys, yer breaking my heart with the talk of this trip.

Up here at campaign central there is a real chance of an electoral upset in the favour of Mrs TheReal, with the bookies taking an interest:

http://www.allaboutorkney.com/news/453-scottish-election-betting-orkney-getting-more-marginal

Now, it's even closer with the LibDems at 1/5 and Donna only a 4/1 shot, so my chances of sloping off are zero. I need to be alert to monitor the angry letters that will be in the paper this week in response to my angry letter of last week anyway ;-) It's all hotting up...

Have a great trip anyway, and I look forward to the aftermath thread.

Anybody fancy cycling from Lands End to John o Groats or vice versa?

Route map (click for stupidly huge version!):

Image

Starting at Sligachan hotel, top left of the map. Clockwise direction, a fair bit of roadwork to begin with, follow the A87 towards and through Sconser. Turn right at 1 onto the old road to get off the tarmac.

Back onto the A87 until Luib, turning right onto minor road at 2. We've got a choice to make here, stay on the green route (boggy even at the best of times apparently), or go left onto the orange... According to STW, apparently about an hours worth of pushing, but a nice descent aftwerwards.

Whether we go green or orange, Torrin at B and the Blue Shed Cafe may be worth a detour for refueling.

Anyway, follow the B8083 westward then south through Kirkibost, turning right at car park and back off-road.

Make sure we turn left at 3 and pop down to the beach at Camasunary - Meant to be lovely.

After the beach, the pay-off... A bit of a climb, then singletrack all the way back to the Hotel.

Sorry TK, I'd assumed we were doing the Sligachan route since we were staying at the hotel campsite  Got a bit carried away there!

Quirang info here...

http://www.skyeactivities.co.uk/Mountain%20Biking.htm

I'll slap that onto bing tonight. Quirang is 15 miles, so not too bad.

If we're thinking about riding both Saturday and Sunday, the other option for Sligachan - instead of doing the 44 mile loop, head south as if going anti-clockwise to Camusanary, and then head back again... that way you get all the lovely singletrack and avoid the road/bog sections. Obviously much shorter too.
