Raleigh identification

hi I have a raleigh in poor shape and was looking to identify it .
Its stamped on the back of the seat post with.
RA5115611
Does this mean
Canada
January
1985 ?
If so I think its a sprint 10

Hi Ricky,
Welcome, I'm new here myself. I would date it as 1975, I have a "Sprint" with a similar serial; mine is definitely 70's vintage, Canadian factory. Bike features/components should be to help you verify the age if it has not been repainted or had components changed.

Paint is no help whatsoever.
Identifying hardware .
Weinmann type 730 side pull brakes
Weinmann levers
Stuck on raleigh Nottingham head badge not a transfer
Sachs hurret clamp on friction shifters
Sachs hurret front and rear mech
Crank arms stamped custom
The 52 tooth front is moulded out to a chain guard that's non removable

Hi, you really need to post a photo of the actual bike, close up shots are great but it`s like trying to do a jigsaw without seeing the photo on the box lid. It`s a similar colour to the pro tour which was a lower range sports bike with similar spec but I think that had 501 tubing? . Anyway you have more chance of an informed reply with a full photo :)
 
Marshallucky I will post some full bike photos tomorrow due to it being hand painted and decal less I thought the hardware it was sporting was a better shot at identifying it but I will bear your advice in mind for the future .I've looked through some old catalogues on here and strugle to match it in the 75 and 85 ones unless I'm dating it wrong from its serial number .
 
Hi Ricky and welcome.

Where you are located (i.e in the UK or Canada or the US) will probably have a bearing here on the exact model and the components used on this bike are very common indeed, there are a lot of Raleigh's from a lot of different markets that use pretty much that exact set of parts. The only help they give are the Sachs logo's which mean they are the later produced parts but that's still a pretty wide range.

There should be some date stamps on bits that will help though and the brake calipers will definitely have some on the reverse that will at least help with the dating if they are original.
 
I'm uk based that's why I was surprised to see R stamped on the frame as all references ive seen point to that meaning Canadian

I am from the US. I have 8 Raleighs from racing to roadster; at least 5 are originally made in England. These bikes travel a lot; military, ex-pats, etc. so I"m not surprised that you could have one not made in the the UK. I hope you didn't think I was ID'ing your bike as a Sprint (reference to mine only); as mentioned earlier, hard to ID without a full bike photo. I would only confirm through research I did for my bike(s) that it would, per the serial number, be '75 out of Canada (if indeed the reference data that I saw is correct). If you obtained from the original owner you might ask where they got it from if still in contact with them. I guess I should have asked whether it was a racing frame or a roadster frame.

Agreed about them travelling, its surprising where they end up and I could take you to a bike shop in a small town in North Carolina that has quite a few English market bikes because the owner is Irish, always wondered what I could bring out from the UK for him in my suitcase.

I could be wrong but I thought the Sachs Huret logos were later than 1975, more like early to mid 80's. Take a look at the date stamps on the back of the brake calipers as they may give you a better idea of the age.
 
Looking again that head badge looks more like mid late 80's if not early 90's to me
