1930's RRA

Hopefully pictures of my recently acquired RRA. The frame number suggests 1935/6 but the rear braze on for the reflector suggests it is 1934. The bike was passed onto me by one of our Club stalwarts and long serving time keeper Bruce Townsend. Bruce had it resprayed before he took possession of it 12 years ago. The only original fitment is the Williams chainwheel which was available as an optional extra. All that I stste I've gleaned on line so please feel free to correct me. Cheers Bill Liddle.

That looks lovely, a nice leather saddle would go well with it.

I quite agree, a leather saddle is on my shopping list. Apparently the correct saddle should be a Brooks B-16 Castalumin . They were replaced because of a fault in the frame so I guess a B17 will do the job nicely. Bill

That is a beautiful looking example. I am sure that will be a really nice ride and looks set to go for many more miles yet.
A new Brooks will give you a good reason to put a few miles on it as you need to break it in

Thanks Jamie. We did 20 miles this morning at 12.7 mph which is only 2 mph off my norm. She feels like a bike with a short wheelbase, bit skittish and I can clip the front mudguard with my toes. I don't know Sturmey Archer gear hubs but have read a couple of sources and hope to get on top of them. It jumps out of first sometimes! It was a bit grumbly when freewheeling but that has nearly gone after this morning's ride. In truth the further we went the more I enjoyed it. Must sort some water bottle carriers out. Cheers Bill
