Peugeot 653 racing team

Ret spotter

Dirt Disciple
Hi all. Latest acquisition comes in the form of a Peugeot 653 racing team with full mavic group. Couldn't resist to the dismay of the wife. Wondered if the bike was an actual pro issue due to the number hanger or if this could be added when purchased? Rear mech was not fitted correctly when received but didn't know till after photos- now adjusted.
Anyway rides like a dream just hoping 'British summertime' holds out for a little while longer!

I agree, that is very nice indeed. It's a great build, both functionally I imagine but also the look of the sum of it. It all just sits very nicely. I suppose that's just taste and using high quality components.

I have the same, although a lot tattier than yours and fitted with 10sp modern Campag.

I love it, the colour scheme is great and the handling is second to none as well. Mine's taken me round the lakes and also the Prudential Ride London a couple of times as well.

Liking the bike stand!

Bike stand is custom! The paint is in fantastic condition. It has a fleck in the paint when sun hits it. Decals are a little grubby but is being left as is.

i don't blame you. it'd be expensive to recreate a finish like that. 653 builds into a lovely bike, and though the pros of the time would've been on 753, I don't doubt a lot of high-level amateur racing was won on stuff just like this

I've never been sure of Peugeots (bad experience with their cars I guess) but thats a good looking bike and I really like the ride of 653 frames.

Thanks for the comments. It is a really smooth ride for a 30 year old bike. Unlike the cars, the gear linkage won't go just when you need to pull out of a junction!

Love it. I had a 531 Professional, but it was bleeding rust out through the lugs and looked awful - even though it was lovely thing to ride.

I managed to source a 653 Ultima frame in original condition, and swapped over the components.

It's wonderful - I've been using it dry weather the last 3 months.

I would post some pics, but don't seem to be able to !

Love these old Pugs.

I've also got a 501 Aneto in full winter kit, and have done 200km Audax rides on it.
