1947/8 Raleigh Record Ace

Old School Hero
I recently completed restoration of a 1947 Raleigh Record Ace.

This was one of the first RRAs built, the first frames being built in mid '47 but the finished models were not available until the following spring owing to shortages of the special high-end components for this model.

The frame had been repainted in 2008 by Paul Raley, the paint matched to original found on the steerer tube.

Owing to its model year, finding the period correct components was a task as these early RRAs had different profile cranks, solid bb spindle and the Sturmey-Archer hubs then were still with steel shells. A NOS AM with a 6.48 date code was fitted. I am still trying to locate the correct headbadge which is like the pre-war one but the screw holes are differently positioned!

The build up weight with sprint rims is 23.9 lbs

What a beautiful build. You have certainly done a great job and your commitment to getting it period correct or as close as, is commendable, especially seen as the scarcity of the parts from this era.
Agree with the others, this is gorgeous :)
