Bianchi Folgore post WWII period

After a chase of a few years I've finally found the bike I was looking for: the Bianchi Folgore with late 40's colouring
It is preserved from the period post WWII
main futures are: Cambio Corsa Campagnolo two levers, hubs Campagnolo, crankset Bianchi, saddle Aquila, brakes Universal, pedals Bianchi, wooden rims D'Alessandro

You have to put up a lot of closeup detail pics on this one!

Is it me or is the fork a bit bent back?

I heard people used to lose their fingers when they got it wrong.

from the picture might look like that I agree but I don't see the misalignment looking at the bike in person

I tried and succeeded keeping all the fingers attached for now. I am very slow at doing it though, it took me something like 20m on flat. the most difficult part is to tighten the chain properly

That is a wonderful bike.

I believe that Gino Bartali was a real whizz with the early gear change systems.

picture speaks by itself
of course during the gear change, when the wheel isn't locked, pedaling would cause the wheel to get out. when it's that steep there's no other option but be a master

Blimey that's in good nick :). I didn't know much about the gear change but looked on Dave Moulton's blog which explained it quite well :)
