NOS 1984 Pinarello Montello Show Bike, Prototype C-Record

Bike Recyclery

Dirt Disciple
Finally finished restoring the NOS 1984 Pinarello Montello show bike! Only took a year and a half. It's story is it was purchased at the 1984 NYC bike show. It was a show bike displaying the prototype C-Record group for the first time in America. Apparently Campy wasn't supposed to sell the bike, but the shop owner who bought it said "tough luck!" He never sold the bike, and it has no real miles. Just a few down the street test rides over the years. I got lucky and bought out the shop owner's remaining inventory, and this beauty was among it!

It was given a very sympathetic restoration Jack. Paint and decals are all original, I just cleaned them up real nice. Completely stripped to a bare frame, meticulously cleaned and repacked all bearings ih Phil grease. NOS correct Campy cables/housing, Regina CS/X freewheel and chain, Vittoria Corsa cx tubular tires. Exactly as it was from the show, just with fresh versions of those parts.

also, if anyone has pictures from the 84 NYC bike show and can find this bike in them, you'll be my hero! It also had this odd Mod Super Star decal on the top tube originally (taken off because it looked crappy)

Nice Bike
BUT Man!! sort out those ridiculous brake cables & shorten the gear cable inners & put inner wire cable ends on them, as this spoils a great looking bike, with the Mega Rare 1st edition C-Record Delta brakes fitted.
Rumour has it only 250 pairs of the 1st edition Deltas ever made???? as they were withdrawn & replaced with the Cobalto brakes.

Re:

Lovely bike, but yes those brake cables!!!! Aaaaargh! Looks a fairly large size, which is unusual for a show bike, as they normally displayed the smaller sizes.

Re:

Ah you guys caught me, I got excited and jumped the gun doing a photo shoot on this one. The shift cables will be trimmed and capped, I'm just trying to find some appropriate period correct caps for it. And now that you mention it, at least the rear brake housing is way too long. It didn't seem so in person until you pointed it out. And now they're driving me crazy :? They'll be shorter soon.

It's a 58cm. I've heard so many different low numbers of these 1st Gen delta's were made. One Campy blog claims three, which is obviously way too low. 250 seems closer judging by how seldom they pop up.

Re:

Well, it's absolutely complete now, with a proper photo shoot. It's on Ebay as we speak :)
