Re: is a late 80s Kestrel 200 considered retro here ?

I hope you're not doing triathlon on an older bike than I am... :D

Nothing is too retro in here! :)

that was Kona IM 2005 , last time I raced the old beast . Its new owner loaned it out and it returned with a de-bonded BB shell , the carbon was all intact but the alloy threads were no longer glued to the carbon , he then gave it back to me and I have decided to repair it as a pure triathlon bike(I use carbon/epoxy every day in my business )

Re:

Is that PU foam I see there ?
Are these frames laminated on a PU former ? or is it in there for buoyancy during triathlons :? :)

Re:

Nice work on the repair.

Out of interest, how are you going to make sure the threaded insert is square to the frame?

Ok, now my ears have pricked up, because so do I :D

As per the earlier question - is that whole frame foam-filled then?

We've been waiting for a colleague to upgrade his Planet X because he's promised us the old frame so that we can slice it down the middle.

i think the expanding foam must have been blown in place later for its damping ? I saved this pic from the web years ago

I fitted a carbon tube into the bb (it already had a glass wrap to keep it away from the carbon) it needed a few wraps of masking tape to be snug then i measured 40cm either side of the shell and used those points for "squareness" whilst the epoxy glue set
