1979 Peugeot Competition

Campagmatic

Devout Dirtbag
It's been a few months since I asked the forum wanted section for "a cheap frame", the original intention being to whack together a quick bike with spare parts I had taking up space in the cupboard.
Forum member 'mrgumby' supplied me with a lovely (slightly rough around the edges) 1979 Peugeot PKN 10 'Competition'.

...and that's about how long my plan lasted because I decided to give it a full strip and respray with 'Super competition' decals and it came out looking like this...

I was so pleased with my handy work (now that I've done 5 or 6 bikes I'm a seasoned pro of course  ) that I couldn't bare to adorn it with a mis-match of parts. The only things I've kept with are the cranks (and Biopace chain ring that I might change), bars and stem and the wheels which I sourced from various forum members. Everything else has now been ordered but I'm waiting on the postman to bring Shimano 'Golden arrow' Brakes and levers, front and rear mechs and shifters to add to this...

I can't wait to get it finished off but I haven't quite worked out what to do with it yet as it's too small for me and too big for my wife and I've spent too much money on it to sell it for what it cost me  I'd better buy it a wall bracket so I can hang it up and look at it for many years to come to remind me of my stupid, irrational bike obsession.

Re:

That looks brilliant :D You're not the only one with an irrational cycling obsession ;)

Re:

Cheers guys :D Already hit a problem though, the Golden arrow gear set arrived today but the shifters don't fit the braze-ons very well and the bolts are too small. Is there different sizes of bolt for shifters? Do I need a larger bolt? or different shifters? I'll be gutted if I can't make it work, I was trying keep it all matching

It's one thing after another with this bike, all purely my fault as usual. My decision to use Golden arrow components wasn't the smartest, I still can't find a way of fixing the shifters so I've put some Suntour ones on for now, then the brakes turn up and they don't fit because they have internal allen key fixings that don't fit the frame and forks. So it's either different calipers, drilling the holes bigger, or a conversion bolt from spa cycles.
Any tips on the best method? Anyone tried the conversion bolts?
