What would it take to put modern shifters on this?

I know it would be a travesty but after riding this and my schils modern setup which is so much smoother I will either sell it or change to combined shifter thingies?

All 105 at present.

Would everything else still work or is it a more extensive switch? Appreciate stops required.

I've not tried this but heard that if you have a 7 speed then apparently Shimano RSX shifters will work.

you need 7 speed shimano STIs and some downtube stops

alternately a campag 8 speed shifter and rear mech will shift nicely on a 7 speed shimano block

Yep 7 speed it is. Hard to come by? What should I expect to pay for something reasonable?

I love bar ends and they are cheap! and they work on friction so number of gears is not an issue.

There were never many 7 speed shimano STIs

RSX, and some 2300/Sora are about the extent of it, and it looks like you can get basic A070 ones new...
