Mercian Olympique 1966 (finished pics now)

Just picked this up for my first old bike. The frame number puts it at 1966 and looking around at lug pics it appears to be an Olympique.

Still collecting 1960s bits but it's not going to have many gears atleast in it's first build up...though not a fixie because it's just too hilly where I live!

Unfortunatley the original paint is way past it.

Re: Mercian 1966

I suppose that's a full blast, paint, lug lining and decals?

Need to pick up the rear wheel tomorrow from a local guy who has built it for me around a Sturmey Archer S2 (new one, couldn't get a 60s one), more than 2 gears just seemed extravagant

Been frantically cleaning and polishing other 50 year old bike bits.

Re: Mercian 1966

Well the wheel is done, suprised how heavy the hub makes it but atleast that's weight central to the wheel I suppose. Rim is a new Rigida polished alloy. Tyre is just the Raleigh Chen Shin 27x1 1/4 as getting anything slimmer seemed impossible.

Modern SA logos came straight off the hub with nail varnish remover.

Still with my brother at the moment. Back from the media blast

Few problems, one rear dropout bent, one front a bit bent, seat tube a bit oval at the top. All fixed now.
The rusted areas are now cleaned but a little pitted so lots of primer and rubbing down
