Raleigh Randonneur frame number.

I thought I would look at the frame number on the bottom of my raleigh randonneur and try and find out what year it was made in. While looking at it, I recognised something strange, the C's are backwards. Look at this picture.
There is an E missing from the start but I was struggling to get a good picture.

The full serial is EC932C but as I have said the C's are backwards.

Anyone know about the backwards C's or enlighten me on what year it was made. It's in fantastic condition and I bought it as a throw around bike but I've kind of fallen in love with it over the past month.

We stamped peoples DOB and postcodes plus other things on bikes for ID........ is there another number somewhere?

Nope that's the only one. I've checked all over the frame.

The latest shimano compontent I can find that was original with the frame (chainset) is '93 July.

Has anyone ever seen backwards C's on any Raleigh frameset?

Might be something really significant... Or it might just have been built on a friday.

Hi, it looks to me that it's simply a mis-printed 0, it looks much more 'closed' than the normal Cs./ Also, this would fit with the serial formatting.

Here is a quote from a post I made a couple of months ago when I bought a Randonneur with a funny serial:

One guy had a 1991 with a serial starting with B

Bxxxx = 1991
Cxxxx = 1992
Dxxxx = 1993

Hxxxx = 1997

I have no evidence of what happens after 1997, they may indeed follow the same pattern or change altogether.

The digits following the letter (there are 4 on mine, may be more/less on others) I can only guess are the individual unit number. The second letter may indicate the builder of the bike (especially bikes that were built by the Special Products Division) or any number of other things.

I hope this will be helpful; I'm not 100% on it but I know of 3 other bikes that follow this pattern

Edit: My serial was EO 5283, so again this would fit with the idea that the first 'C' is in fact a 0
