Cyclo x conversion

Hello all,
Theres probably threads on this already, but just in case there isnt, has anybody ever converted a steel road bike into a cross bike? I found a 531 frame outside the tip in the bushes the other day, so its now mine. I want to braze on some canti brake bosses, get some carbon forks and give it a spray job. Its the brazing of brake bosses im particularly interested in on the rear stays. Anybody got any craic about this sort of thing?

Not sure I'd like to braze myself without lots of practice.......heat up the metal too much and you get funny phase changes in the metal which weakens it :)

M Steel should be pretty close to you (Frame builders)

Bob Jackson can do braze on cantilever bosses for about 30 quid (though I imagine you'd want to do a respray after the brazing, so that will cost extra).

TBH it might be easier to just find an old touring or hybrid frame and use that as a basis for the build. Such bikes are not hugely fashionable just now, so you could probably get something really cheap.

Good luck,

Johnny
