ESA Colnago Mexico

This is the much Rarer of the 3 Colnago Mexico's (The ESA Model) with the 6 crimp's in the tubing, which was used before the change to the 4 crimp Gilco tubing used on the later Colnago Master's. I have tried to show this in many of the photos the 6 crimps on the Seat, Down & Top tubes. Also on this one I have used some unusual Super Record Aero Brake levers these I think???... were a modification by Scalpin. The genuine Campag Aero levers first appeared on the later C-Record groupset. As you can see from the photos this was not some amateur bodge up but done professionally & from what little I can find out about these they were available to the public. I drilled the bars to keep the cable runs as straight as possible out of the brake lever.
The rest of the groupset is just the very common or garden Super Record with Mavic GP4 rims.

I dont know that much about any of the Colnago Mexico's or the dates etc. But I do have 2 more of them! the standard Mexico with 2 crimps in the top & down tubes & crimps on the inside of the chain stays. Also the Novo Mexico which has the 2 crimps in the top tube & 4 in the down tube, this one also has an internal rear bake cable. As to when Colnago started or stopped producing any of them I have no idea at all, What i do know is that every man & his dog seems to be the world expert on them but when you actually get down to it there is just too much conflicting opinions out there..
 
I have two, a '78/79 with 1st gen sr which had no crimps in that era, and a Nuovo mexico with2nd gen sr
 
I was of the understanding that the early mexicos had more pronounced points on the luggs, and the diameter of the tubing was thinner
 
Like I said I’m no expert on Colnago’s, everyone else is.
But looking at the photos which are not that detailed & the catalogue entry the only difference that I can see right now is the frame decals on the chain stays on the chrome one says SUPER

And the Gold one says Mexico on the chain stay & has Colnago embossed on the top of the seat stay.

But if you say this one is a “Colnago ORA” then I take your word for it.
