There's money to be had from those parts that's for sure & totally agree on the high prices just now.

Never fear, been there, done that. Check out my 1977 Carlton Pro restoration ... paint on a silver, white, or black bike is EASY to fix ...

As for the gears, you should buy some NOS suntour barcons on ebay, it will make the bike a lot more comfortable to ride and to shift the gears, they are a big improvement over downtube shifters...
