Vitus 992

folano

Retro Newbie
Hi all,

I spent last August fixing up this Vitus I got from eBay, took about a month and it was a great way to learn about bikes and how they work. Previously I would leave it to the LBS.

The bike looked like it came from a shed somewhere, and the seat post was jammed. Stuck it into a vice and got it out. Replaced all cables and regreased all parts. Sanded the frame and polished it up and it looks not too bad now. Weight tips close to 10 kilos but this is mostly due to the wheels (6kg), the cxps are pretty tough and durable.

absolutely adore this bike, it's got great presence. My plan(s) for 2013 are to get hold of either a Colnago or a Vitus, and looking at yours, I could be heading down the Vitus route - thanks for posting, gorgeous bike.

Class.

A nice way to learn about bikes. I bet you are chuffed with the result.

What's it ride like ? I've heard they flex a bit which has always put me off buying one.

Brill, love it!

Fitting as I've actually just bought a 992 frameset...just have to wait for it to be delivered from France :(

Very nice , but your scales must be off as i can assure you your wheels are not 6kg . Maybe 2 .

I love 992's, this seems to have late graphics. Looks good with DuraAce and the red rims, tempted to suggest the saddle doesn't work with the slim lines of the rest of the bike.

Hi all, thanks for the comments, they have been very informative.
I am reluctantly selling this bike at the moment, yes I know, I really should not do this and will probably regret it.
